From its succesful range AlfaLine UV, bestUV delivered UV systems for treatment of several children pools.
Treatment of children pools is both important and difficult. Important, because of the sensitivity of young children for chloramines (bounded chlorine) and difficult, because young children create high amounts of chloramines in swimming pools.
Based on many years of practical experiences and comparisons of many results, bestUV developed its own ‘Code of Design’ (CoD). The CoD combines several pool parameters and the use of bestUV’s own UV lamps.
Besides low amounts of chloramines in water and air, the bestUV systems also provide lowest operational costs for the pool.

Dutch UV manufacturer bestUV again succesfully runs with several UV systems in a public swimming pool. The result is: improved, pleasant and healthy air without ‘chlorine smell’.
The bestUV systems have remarkably effects on the air in the indoor swimming pool. This is important as young children enjoy to play in paddling, toddlers and whirlpool.
The amount of bounded chlorine is below 0,20 ppm, meaning that the level of bounded chlorine follows the strict german regulations DIN 19643-1(5.3.16) of max. 0,20 ppm of combined chlorine.
It is very important for young children to prevent exposure to high amounts of chloramines, especially trichloramines (TCA). Many international reports confirm the health risks of exposure to trichloramines at young children.
The bestUV systems are equipped with special UV lamps. The lamps are unique, emit the specific wavelengths to breakdown a.o. trichloramine.
Single wavelength, low-pressure (LP) UV lamps, are not used as the germicidal wavelength of 254nm, is not effective to breakdown trichloramine by direct photolysis.
It is obvious that young children, their parents and the staff feel very comfortable in the several pools treated by bestUV units. The result is a pleasant and above all healthy pool air where visitors want to stay and return.

Several bestUV systems were installed in one of the latest new-built aquaparcs in Europe. The new constructed aquaparc is officially opened in the begin of 2012.
Dutch manufacturer bestUV, leading in UV units for swimming pools, was selected by the contractors because of its wide range of references, proven effects and high quality products with lowest operational cost.
In the new-built aquaparc the bestUV units are used in:
- 25m pool
- 50m Olympic swimming pool
- toddlers pool
- recreation pool
- salt water pool
All pools are equipped with bestUV systems including specially developped bestUV lamps, UV sensor technology and cleaning device to prevent fouling of quartz sleeves.
Salt water pool
Especially the UV unit for the ‘salt water pool’ is confirming again the innovative strength of bestUV. The salty pool water is highly corrosive to the material normally used in pool water. After many years of testing in comparable situations, bestUV is able to provide a high quality low-cost solution for UV pool units, resistant to highly corrosive warm salt water.
The bestUV systems are following the new draft (May 2011) of the German DIN 19643-2:2011-05 chapter 4.5.5. The DIN allows the use of specific medium-pressure UV lamps only.
Several bestUV systems were installed in one of the largest aquaparcs in Europe. The newly constructed aquaparc was officially opened in 2010 and consists of a.o. 25m pool, several bubble and wild water baths, children’s pools and water slides.
All pools are equipped with bestUV systems including specially developed bestUV lamps, UV sensors and cleaning devices to prevent fouling of quartz sleeves.
The specially developed bestUV lamps* create a double effect, as they emit wavelengths for disinfection of water and for reduction of combined chlorine in the water.
The disinfection by UV light is important as it:
- reduces dosing of free chlorine
- reduces formation of disinfection byproducts
- kills chlorine resistent microorganisms
The breakdown of bounded chlorine is important as it:
- reduces bounded chlorine in the poolwater
- reduces the supply of fresh water by
- improves the environment in the pool
The overall results, after over 1 year operation of using the bestUV systems are healthy and pleasant pool water and pool air. More visitors (especially children) enjoy the pools and come back. A quick return on investment.
*The bestUV lamps are following the new draft (May 2011) of the German DIN 19643-2:2011-05 chapter 4.5.5. The DIN allows the use of specific medium-pressure UV lamps only. Above described aquaparc is thus equipped according to the newest German DIN.
A comparison between the two UV lamp technologies: low- and medium pressure (LP and MP) for use in swimming pools is available now. The differences in reduction of chloramines (mono-, di-, and trichloramine) and microorganisms are described with references to scientific reports.
The document is written by the ‘experts in ultraviolet light’ especially for operators to help in selection of the best lamp technology available for pool water treatment.
In this comparison of lamp technologies for the treatment of pool water. Ben F. Kalisvaart describes the different ways of treating pool water, which clearly shows the advantages of using Medium Pressure UV lamps in pool water.
